Time Controls

Standard game clock

Every staked game on PVPChess uses the same time control: five minutes on your clock, plus two seconds added after each of your moves.

When your time runs out, you lose on time unless the position is already drawn by rule.

How the clock works

The server runs the official clock. Time counts down on your turn and stops when you move. The two-second increment is added to your remaining time after each of your moves.

Both players see the same clock state in real time during the game.

Placement games

Placement games against Stockfish use the same clock rules. Placement is free and does not involve stakes.

Timeouts & disconnects

Running out of time is a loss. If you disconnect, the clock continues. Rejoin if you can, but standard abandonment and timeout rules still apply in staked games.
